ZitatA good friend of mine in the army who has a large stash of military watches including a pair of Milsubs was chatting about a recent trip to Sussex. He told me that a Rolex dealer down there was interested in purchasing his milsubs. During the course of the conversation the subject of previous mil sub sales came up and the dealer made the following statement. "there are a couple of well known collectors out there who are recognized as experts on the subject" He added that when a Misub comes up on ebay these collectors approach the seller with the demand that they are allowed to verify its authentiticy (spelling ???) prior to making an offer. Nothing unusual there: but this chap then went on to state that these collectors demand that the watch is sold to them at a price they set or they will use their reputation to discredit both the watch and the seller. He went on to say that these collectors even act collectively to discredit a watch/seller who refuses to deal with one of them. No wonder many Milsubs stay where they belong: within the military community, the dramas, hassles and sheer bloody mindedness that goes with selling "outside" just isn't worth the hassle. I must add that this was a conversation described to me, I was not privvi to it at the time and I have no experience of selling a Milsub "outside" nor were any particular collectors mentioned.
